Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, as the name suggests, focuses on the present and the future without the need to remember or relive, often painful, memories or events from the past.

It is a collaborative approach where we work together to reduce anxieties and promote calm in the mind.

I will guide you through the process, but it is important that you understand that you are the one that makes the change because you want it and that you are willing to take the steps towards making the change happen.

What to expect

The Initial Consultation provides an opportunity for you to tell me why you are seeking help and what you expect to achieve from hypnotherapy. I will gather some basic information from you which, will allow me to form a treatment plan before explaining how the brain works in relation to your problem.

This is an important part of the treatment and understanding why you are suffering and what we can do about it can be a huge relief and bring things into perspective for you. We will also discuss the commitment required from you to bring about the best results and an approximate number of sessions it may take. At the end of the session, I will provide you with my relaxation download to listen to between sessions.

Subsequent sessions are made up of two parts, each lasting approximately 25 minutes. The first part is talking therapy (psychotherapy), during this time we will look at the positive aspects of your week and how you will reach your goal. This is followed by a period of trance (hypnosis) where I will lead you into a deeply relaxed state using positive language, guided imagery, indirect suggestion, and metaphors where your subconscious mind will be able to consolidate what we have discussed.

These are very pleasant, relaxing, and often fun sessions where we focus on positives and the future without dwelling on the past and are something that my clients find themselves looking forward to each week.

Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis

There are many kinds of Psychotherapy, all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems. Psychotherapy involves talking together to overcome difficulties and therefore it is often referred to as ‘talking therapy’. I practice solution focused psychotherapy which does not analyse the past but acknowledges where you are now. identifies where you want to be and helps you to get to where you want to be.

Hypnosis is a very natural state and I am sure you can remember times where you’ve driven home but don’t remember part of the route, read a chapter of a book and not remembered what it said or perhaps you’ve been watching a movie and your thoughts have drifted off somewhere else for a while and you realise you’ve not seen or heard what’s been happening on the screen. These are all examples of hypnotic-trance, and as with those examples during the trance period of our session you can still function and understand what is happening around you and you can bring yourself out of it at any time should you want. I would be surprised if you did though as it is such an enjoyable and relaxing experience – I often think of it as ‘massage for the mind’.
